The return of the witches!

Hello!

Just reflecting on the Salem witch-hunt that occurred some hundred years ago, and people are saying "how could people be so stupid?"

Well, are they that more intelligent today? I watched a reporter interview a group of students, and was frankly astounded at the stupidity of their answers. And remember, these were STUDENTS!

Knowledge is obviously not a linear development that goes from primitive to the more sophisticated, as this has not been the case in history.

For example, I believe that the ancient Greeks knew that the earth was round, but at medieval times it was flat.

So, obviously, the process is reversible.

So, can a witch-hunt be started today?

Naturally, as the point is, what do people believe? What concepts do they have? How do they know Coke is refreshing? That hill-billy's are stupid? That Al-Queada  did 9/11? Marketing, my friends, marketing! How do you get people to believe anything at all? Marketing! The basic philosophy of marketing is, that you should avoid at all cost to involve the intellect, as that is the enemy of any marketing attempt. Instead, the focus is on FEELINGS! Are you feeling insecure? No problem! Try this deodorant... And it's not only products, it's also lifestyles, philosophy, science, history, politics.

So, launching a marketing campaign to re-establish the existence of the Devil might not be as difficult as imagined, and once that's established, there is the question of what to do with his accomplices here on earth.....

International Women's Day

So the day is upon us, 8:th of March (Grassmonth, old school) so let's celebrate! One brave woman to celebrate is: Lydia Litvyak, 12 victory female russian fighter pilot from WWII.

The other one is Lise Ottessen-Jenssen, that, in the early 20 century, taught men and women how to use contraceptives, and thereby avoid getting more children than they could feed. For this she was repeatedly arrested by the police.

I will not, however, celebrate Valerie Salinas, as I consider her a nutcase. Although intelligent and witty, she was seriously disturbed, probably because being sexually abused as a child

Decisions again...

Strange how things turn out sometimes. Recieved an e-mail from a girl in russia, who is looking for a friend (read future husband) and that never fails to disturb me. On one hand I don't mind the companionship of a female, I am a healthy enough male for that.

On the other hand I am not interested in marriage, kids and all that, I am way too old for that.

So, I wrote her in return and as politely and correctly as possible expressed my views. I don't expect to hear from her again.

Now that's a novel way to celebrate Valentines Day!!

Decisions, decisions.....

Third week now of this nasty cold, I keep on coughing like Hank Williams, maybe it's time to give up smoking?
On the other hand, I gave up alcohol and drugs, isn't that enough?

As the saying goes, old habits die hard.

My sister is in a worse state than me, the doctors wanted to admit her into hospital, but she declined, there is a stubborn streak in this here family. She's better today, praise the gods (observe: this expression does not differentiate between different sexes)

Reflecting on matters outside myself (whew, that's a relief!) the conclusion draws ever nearer that we in fact do not live in the twenty-first century at all, but in the new fifteenth!

In the fifteenth century, the main source of information came from the clergy, as they were among the few that could read anyway, and they passed on information they saw fit to the general populace, kingly decrees biblical stories, warning about witches, et al...

Today we don't have to listen to the priests, but their role has been overtaken by the mainstream media, who tell us what to think, tell us what is important etc.

If we really want to find out what is really happening, we must descend into the Underground (aka Internet)
and plow our way between information as well as des-information (yes, they are there too) and by virtue of our own analytical ability, find out for ourselves.

There is comfort in sharing a widely-held belief, but it doesn't become any less an illusion.
